وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ الْوَاسِطِيِّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " امْرُؤُ الْقَيْسِ صَاحِبُ لِوَاءِ الشِّعْرِ إِلَى النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Imru' al-Qays (the renowned poet of the Age of Ignorance) will be the standard-bearer of the poets heading towards Hell, carrying their banner."
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated it in his Musnad, and Imam Ahmad also recorded it; however, the hadith scholars have criticised it because of the isolated transmission and weakness of a narrator in its chain named Abu al-Jahm al-Wasiti, and Allamah al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) declared this hadith weak.
