It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah Almighty and the Last Day, let him never enter the (public) bathhouse together with his wife."
Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Ata bin Ajlan in its chain is from Basrah, from whom Abd al-Warith narrated, and he is munkar al-hadith (a very weak narrator).
I (Ibn Hajar) say: I have cited this report because of the unusual and strange nature of its wording; otherwise Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it from the narration of Ibn Lahi'ah through Abu al-Zubayr with the words: "Let him not bring his wife into the bathhouse." And the text we have presented here gives a meaning different from the meaning of this (other narration).
