Al-Qasim bin Mukhawwal al-Bahzi narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Mukhawwal al-Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him)), who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, we come across camels (on the road) that have milk in them and whose udders are tied up (to hold the milk back), while we are (in severe) need." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call out three times: 'O owner of the camels!' If he comes (then well and good); otherwise, untie the cloth (the tie) from its udders and drink the milk, then tie it up again and leave some milk in the udder so that the pull for more milk to come down remains." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, give me some advice." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Establish the prayer, pay the zakah, fast Ramadan, perform Hajj to the House, perform Umrah, be dutiful to your parents, keep the ties of kinship (treat your relatives well), host the guest, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and wherever the truth goes, stay with it."
(The narrator said:) I then said: "O Messenger of Allah, stray animals pass by us; will we have any reward for giving them water?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! There is reward in (giving water to) every fresh, living creature with a liver."
