Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2381 — What to say on seeing a lion

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "When you see a lion, say the takbir three times. Say: 'Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, a'azzu min kulli shay'in wa akbar, wa a'udhu billahi min sharri ma akhafu wa ahdhar' (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; He is mightier than everything and greater, and I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what I fear and am wary of). (If you say this,) then, if Allah Almighty wills, you will be protected from its evil."
And (it is in the narration that) when a dog barks at a person, he should say: "O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass; you will not pass except by authority" [Surah al-Rahman: 33].
