Musaddad narrated that Yazid bin Zuray' narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Qatadah, from Kurz bin Abi Kathir, who said: "Yahya bin Ya'mar used to give the verdict in Khurasan that when a man buys a sacrificial animal, designates it (for sacrifice), and the (first) ten days (of Dhu al-Hijjah) begin, he should refrain from cutting his hair and nails until he has offered the sacrifice."
Qatadah said: "I mentioned this to Sa'id bin al-Musayyib and he said: 'Yes (this is the ruling).' I asked: 'From whom have you taken this ruling?' He said: '(It is reported) from the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).'"
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Imam Muslim has also narrated it from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib through two other chains, and (in those chains) he (Sa'id bin al-Musayyib) said: "(This ruling is narrated) from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her)."
