Imam al-Tayalisi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Abd al-Jalil bin Atiyyah, from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him), that he used to narrate (this) hadith: "The white hairs of old age are light (a source of radiance and honour), except for the one who dyes them (i.e. the white hairs) or plucks them out."
Then (the narrator of the hadith, Abd al-Jalil bin Atiyyah) asked Shahr bin Hawshab: "But people make (their hair) yellow and dye it with henna (so does this ruling apply to that too, that it no longer remains light)?" Shahr bin Hawshab replied: "Yes! It is as if (by this prohibition) black dye is meant."
