حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ حَفْصٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ ابْنُ عَوْفٍ عَلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصُ حَرِيرٍ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : ذُكِرَ لِي أَنَّ مَنْ لَبِسَ الْحَرِيرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا لَمْ يَلْبَسْهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ . قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ : إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَلْبَسَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ .

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabi'ah that once Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wearing a silk shirt. At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have been told that whoever wears silk in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter." Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said (in reply): "I hope that I will wear it both in this world and in the Hereafter."
