It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever dies while there is no collar of obedience (ta'ah) (to the ruler of the time) upon him dies the death of the days of ignorance (mitah jahiliyyah); and whoever, after making the pledge (of allegiance), casts it off from his neck (the narrator Aswad said: 'from his neck'), will meet Allah Almighty having no excuse or argument (for what he did)."
[Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah: 2140]. Both teachers, Aswad bin Amir and Ali bin Hafs, narrated this narration from Sharik in the same way.
