It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was standing (on guard) by the blessed head of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while Urwah bin Mas'ud was talking with him (peace and blessings be upon him). Al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him), (seeing that during the conversation Urwah was repeatedly reaching his hand towards the blessed beard of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him),) said to him: "Pull your hand back, or it will not return to you (intact)." At that time Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) was wearing a sword. Urwah asked: "Who is this?" He was told: "This is your nephew, al-Mughirah." Urwah said: "O treacherous one! I have not yet even washed my head of your treachery (that is, I am still paying the blood money for your old crime)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic); Imam al-Bukhari narrated it in a long hadith about the story of al-Hudaybiyah (the Treaty of Hudaybiyah), from Imam al-Zuhri, from Urwah, from Sayyiduna al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him).
