قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، ثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، ثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ مَوْلَى عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ : إِنَّ دُرْجًا أَتَى بِهِ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ أَصْحَابُهُ فَلَمْ يَعْرِفُوا قِيمَتَهُ ، فَقَالَ : أَتَأْذَنُونَ أَنْ أَبْعَثَ بِهِ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا لِحُبِّ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِيَّاهَا ؟ قَالُوا : نَعَمْ ، فَأُتِيَ بِهِ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا ، فَفَتَحَتْهُ فَقِيلَ : هَذَا أَرْسَلَ بِهِ إِلَيْكِ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَتْ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : مَاذَا فَتَحَ عَلَيَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُبْقِنِي لِعَطِيَّةِ قَابِلٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "A small casket was brought to Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) who were with him looked at it but could not recognise its worth. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Will you permit me to send this to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), because of the great love the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had for her?' They said: 'Yes.' So it was brought to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and when she opened it she was told: 'Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) has sent this to you.' At that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: 'What doors (of the world) Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) has opened upon me since the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed!' Then she made this supplication: 'Allahumma la tubqini li-'atiyyati qabil' (O Allah, do not keep me alive until next year's gift)."
