Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 198 — The beginning of menstruation

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, asked Adam (peace be upon him): "O Adam, what led you to eat from the tree from which I had forbidden you?" The narrator said: Then Adam (peace be upon him), offering an excuse, said: "O my Lord, Hawwa made it appear adorned and attractive to me." Allah Almighty said: "Then I have punished her in that she will not carry a pregnancy except with hardship, nor will she give birth (to a child) except with pain, and I have decreed for her that blood (menstruation) will flow twice every month." The narrator said: At this (decree) Hawwa began to cry out and weep, and it was said to her: "This crying and wailing will now remain upon you and upon your daughters."
This report is mawquf (attributed to the Companion), and its chain is sahih (authentic).
