قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ : عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ الْأَحْنَفِ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُثْلَةِ . قُلْتُ : مَا عَرَفْتُ قَيْسَ بْنَ الْأَحْنَفِ مَنْ هُوَ ، وَالْمَعْرُوفُ الْأَحْنَفُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، لَكِنَّ يَزِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي زِيَادٍ لَمْ يُدْرِكْهُ .
Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying that he (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade mutilation (that is, disfiguring the body of a person or an animal by cutting off its limbs)."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: I could not find out who this Qays bin al-Ahnaf is, for the well-known figure is al-Ahnaf bin Qays, but Yazid bin Abi Ziyad did not live in his (al-Ahnaf bin Qays's) time (that is, he did not meet him).
