Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 1847 — Banishing apostates after asking

Qays bin Abi Hazim narrates that a man passed by one of the mosques of the tribe of Banu Hanifah and saw that their imam was reciting the fabricated recitation of Musaylimah the Liar: 'Wa al-tahinati tahna, wa al-'ajinati 'ajna, wa al-tharidati tharda, fa al-laqimati laqma' (By those who grind flour well, then by those who knead well, then by those who make fine tharid, and then by those who make big morsels). When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) learnt of this grave matter, he summoned those people, and it turned out that they were seventy men in all who followed this same misleading recitation of Musaylimah. On this occasion Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "We will never give refuge with us to this satanic band; send them off to Syria, and it is strongly hoped that Allah Almighty will destroy them through the thrusts of enemy spears or the epidemic of plague."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: The story of these people was also recorded by Imam Abu Dawud and other imams through the narration of Harithah bin Mudarrib from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), but those narrations do not contain detailed particulars like those here.
