Musaddad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Sufyan, he from Amr, and he from Ubayd bin Amr (may Allah have mercy on him), that he said: "The woman has been made trustee and responsible for her private part (and the matters connected with it)."
What is meant by this scholarly statement is that in specifically female matters such as menstruation, purity, pregnancy and the waiting period ('iddah), a woman's word is to be considered reliable and authoritative in the Shari'ah, because Allah Almighty has entrusted the safeguarding of these hidden matters and their trust to the woman herself, as Allah Almighty says: "And it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs" (Surah al-Baqarah: 228).
