It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that they both said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us. Then the narrator mentioned the full hadith, which also contains these (words): "And whoever strives and walks in the cause of a man's lawful marriage until he brings the two of them (the man and the woman) together, Allah Almighty will grant him one thousand wide-eyed houris, each of whom will dwell in a palace of pearl and ruby. And for every step he takes in this effort, or every word he utters for it, he will receive the reward of a year of worship whose nights were spent standing (in prayer) and whose days were spent fasting. And whoever strives to bring about reconciliation between a woman and her husband will receive the reward of one thousand martyrs truly slain in the path of Allah, and for every step he will receive the reward of a year of worship in which the fasts were kept and the nights were spent standing (in prayer)."
