إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ... فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثَ السَّلَفِ ، وَزَادَ : قَالَ أَبِي : وَمَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَلَى حِنْطَةٍ مَطِيرَةٍ رَأْسُهَا حِنْطَةٌ جَافَّةٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ ، أَلَا تَرَكْتَهَا حَتَّى يَشْتَرِيَ إِخْوَانُكَ مَا يَعْرِفُونَ ! .
The narrator said: Isma'il bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Abi Rabi'ah narrated to me from his father, from his grandfather; then he mentioned the hadith about bay' al-salaf (advance payment), and added: My father said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a heap of wheat that had been soaked by rain, but whose top part consisted of dry wheat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What made you do this? Why did you not leave it as it was, so that your brothers would buy what they (could see and) recognise!"
