It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to forbid hoarding. The narrator's father said: "They considered the prohibition of hoarding to apply only to foodstuffs and things eaten with bread." In another narration: Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) used to forbid hoarding; then Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke to him about a freed slave of his, or about some person, and he let him be.
