Ishaq narrated through Wahb bin Jarir, his father, Muhammad bin Ishaq and Abu Ubaydah bin Muhammad bin Ammar bin Yasir from al-Rubayyi' bint Mu'awwidh bin Afra' (may Allah be pleased with her): "I and some women of the Ansar went to Asma' bint Makhrabah, who was the mother of Abu Jahl. Her son Abdullah bin Abi Rabi'ah used to send her perfume from Yemen, which she would sell on credit until the time the stipends were distributed. Al-Rubayyi' said: I bought perfume from her, and she weighed it for me, and like the other women I filled it into glass bottles. Then she said to me: Have my due written down as owed by you. So I said to the scribe: Write it in the name of al-Rubayyi' bint Mu'awwidh bin Afra'. Asma' said: You are the daughter of the man who killed his own master. I replied: By Allah! I am not the daughter of the killer of his master; rather, I am the daughter of the killer of his slave. At this Asma' said: By Allah! I will never sell you anything. I too said in reply: By Allah! I will never buy anything from you either; by Allah, that perfume is neither fine nor does it have any fragrance. Then al-Rubayyi' said: O my dear son! By Allah! I had never smelled a finer perfume than it, but when she said what she said, anger came over her, and I too said what I said."
