Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I never saw anyone differ with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in a matter of knowledge and he remained silent, until once Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) differed with him over the ruling on a woman who menstruates after the tawaf of the Day of Sacrifice. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "She may depart (without the farewell tawaf)." So people sent word to a woman to whom this very situation had occurred in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and her answer supported the position of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
I (Ibn Hajar) say: The basis of this report is in the Sahih without mention of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), and there the woman is named as Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her).
