وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، ثَنَا فَرَجُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ ، ثَنَا أَبُو هُبَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ صَدَقَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : إِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الصِّيَامِ صِيَامُ أَخِي دَاوُدَ ، كَانَ يَصُومُ نِصْفَ الدَّهْرِ ، يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا .
Imam Ahmad bin Mani' (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "Indeed the best fasting is the fasting of my brother Dawud (peace be upon him); he used to fast half of his life, that is, he would fast one day and break the fast one day."
