عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِرَجُلٍ : هَلُمَّ فَلْنَجْعَلْ يَوْمَنَا هَذَا لِلَّهِ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - فَوَاللَّهِ ، لَكَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - شَاهَدَ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ فَخَطَبَ ، فَقَالَ : " وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ : هَلُمَّ فَلْنَجْعَلْ يَوْمَنَا هَذَا لِلَّهِ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - " . فَمَا زَالَ يَقُولُهَا حَتَّى تَمَنَّيْتُ أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ سَاخَتْ بِي .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) states: I said to a man: Come! Let us dedicate this day of ours to Allah Almighty. The narrator states: Then it was as if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was present on that occasion; that day he delivered a sermon and said: "Some person says: Come! Let us dedicate this day of ours to Allah Almighty." He (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating this sentence, until I wished that I would be buried in the earth.
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : فَمَا زَالَ يُرَدِّدُهَا حَتَّى تَمَنَّيْتُ أَنِّي أَسِيخُ فِي الْأَرْضِ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُمَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ ، إِلَّا أَنَّ ثَابِتًا الْبُنَانِيَّ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ حِطَّانَ ، وَلَمْ يُسَمِّهِ .
In one narration the words are: He kept repeating this sentence until I wished that I would sink into the earth. Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded this same narration, and the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih, except that Thabit al-Bunani said: A person who heard Hittan narrate it told me this, and he did not name that person.
