Muhammad bin Salam al-Baykandi said: What was regarded as nobility from a little before the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) up to the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and which continued into Islam, is a household of Yemen that was in Kinda, in the description: Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him); their horseman, from Zubayd, was Amr bin Ma'dikarib; and their poet was Imru' al-Qays, who was from Kinda. There is no disagreement about this. (Allamah Haythami says:) I do not know what it means.

Abu Ishaq narrates: A man from Kinda owed me a debt, and I kept going to him at the time of suhur. One day, at the Fajr prayer, I was in the mosque of Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him), and I prayed. When the imam said the salam, Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) had a garment, a pair of sandals and five hundred dirhams placed in front of every person in the mosque. I said: "I am not one of the regular attendees of this mosque." He said: "Even though you are not one of the regular attendees of the mosque (accept it anyway)." I said: "Who is this person?" The people said that this was Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him), who had come from Makkah.
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Isra'il al-Mula'i, about whom there is disagreement, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Qays bin Abi Hazim narrates: When Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) was brought, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was given advice; he untied his bonds and married him to his sister. Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) drew his sword, entered the camel market, and hamstrung every camel and she-camel he saw. The people cried out: "Al-Ash'ath (may Allah be pleased with him) has become a disbeliever!" When Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath (may Allah be pleased with him) had finished, he put down his sword and said: "By Allah! I have not disbelieved; rather, this man (that is, the Commander of the Believers) has married his sister to me. Had we been in our own land, our wedding feast would have been greater than this. O people of Madinah! Slaughter all these animals and eat their meat; and O owners of the camels! Come forward and take your price."
Tabarani recorded it; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abd al-Mu'min bin Ali, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
