بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ -

عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَغَزَوْتُ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ بِضْعًا وَأَرْبَعِينَ - أَوْ بِضْعًا وَثَلَاثِينَ - مِنْ بَيْنِ غَزْوَةٍ وَسَرِيَّةٍ .
Sayyiduna Tariq bin Shihab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) I took part in more than forty battles (the narrator is unsure, perhaps the words are:) I took part in more than thirty battles, comprising both major campaigns and small expeditions.
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ - أَوْ ثَلَاثًا وَأَرْبَعِينَ - مِنْ غَزْوَةٍ إِلَى سَرِيَّةٍ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُمَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

In one narration the words are: I took part in thirty-three (the narrator is unsure, perhaps the words are:) forty-three battles, large and small.
