Abd al-Wahid bin Abi Awn narrates: A letter from some man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him): "Write the reply on my behalf!" He wrote the reply and then read it out to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have written it correctly and done well. O Allah! Grant him success!" The narrator says: When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became caliph, he used to consult him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a mu'dal report, and its chain is hasan (good).
