Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so has a date palm, and I want to set up the wall of my garden with it. So command him to give it to me so that I can set up the wall of my garden with it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to that man): "Give him that palm in exchange for a date palm in Paradise." That man refused. Sayyiduna Abu al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to that man and said: "Sell me that palm of yours in exchange for my garden." He did so. Sayyiduna Abu al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have bought that palm in exchange for my garden, so give that palm to the man concerned; I have presented it to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How many heavy clusters of dates Abu al-Dahdah has in Paradise!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this several times. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abu al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to his wife and said: "O Umm al-Dahdah! Come out of this garden, for I have sold it in exchange for a date palm in Paradise." She said: "This is a profitable deal," or she said some similar word.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When this verse was revealed: "Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan," Sayyiduna Abu al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Is Allah Almighty asking us for a loan?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, O Abu al-Dahdah!" He said: "Show me your hand." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) extended his hand to him, and he said: "I lend my garden to my Lord as a loan." The narrator says: His garden had six hundred date palms. Then he walked until he came to that garden, where Umm al-Dahdah and the members of her household were. He called out loudly: "O Umm al-Dahdah!" She said: "I am here." He said: "Come out, for I have lent it to my Lord as a loan."

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abza (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Sayyiduna Abu al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him) asking him for a loan. When the messenger came to him, he asked: "Has the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent to me asking me for a loan?" The messenger replied: "Yes." He said: "I call Allah Almighty to witness as I say that my land in such-and-such a place is for Allah." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How many clusters Abu al-Dahdah has in Paradise!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Yahya bin Salamah bin Kuhayl, whom the majority declared weak and Ibn Hibban declared trustworthy.
