Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Once we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a house, with a group of people from the Muhajirun, among whom were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abdul Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let every person rise and go to his peer." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rose and went to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), embraced him and said: "You are my close companion in this world and my close companion in the Hereafter."
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Talhah bin Zayd, who is very da'if (very weak).

Ubayd al-Himyari states: I was with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him); this was at the time when he had been besieged. He asked: "Is Talhah here?" Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Yes!" Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Stand up." Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I ask you by Allah: do you not know that we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Let each one of you take the hand of the one sitting beside him.' So you took the hand of so-and-so, and so-and-so took the hand of so-and-so, until every person had taken the hand of his companion, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand and said: 'This is my companion in this world, and he will be my close companion in the Hereafter.'" Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Allah knows, yes."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Kharijah bin Mus'ab, who is matruk (abandoned); it has been said of him that he is a liar, and one view about him is that he is mustaqim al-hadith (sound in hadith); the Imams, such as Ahmad and others, declared him da'if (weak).
