Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A wolf attacked a goat and seized it. The shepherd went after it and snatched the goat back from the wolf. The wolf then sat on its tail in the iq'a' posture and said to the shepherd: "Do you not fear Allah Almighty? You have snatched from me the provision that Allah Almighty had granted me." The man said: "How astonishing! A wolf sitting on its tail in the iq'a' posture is speaking with me like a human being!" The wolf said: "Shall I not tell you of something more astonishing than this? In Yathrib is Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who informs people of the news of earlier times." The narrator says: Then the shepherd came driving his goats until he entered Madinah. He gathered them in one corner of Madinah, then came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order, and it was announced that all the people should gather. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and said to that bedouin: "Tell these people about it." He told them, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has spoken the truth. By the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the Hour will not be established until wild beasts speak with human beings, and the tip of a man's whip and the strap of his sandal speak to him, and his thigh tells him what his wife did after him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam al-Tirmidhi recorded the last part of this narration.
Ahmad recorded it.
In a narration transmitted from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), the words are: "Once a man from the tribe of Aslam was among his goats, taking them along in the area of Dhu al-Hulayfah, when a wolf attacked him and seized one of his goats. The shepherd began throwing stones at the wolf until he rescued the goat from it." After this, the narrator transmitted the narration as before.
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded something similar in abridged form; the narrators of one of Ahmad's two chains are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A wolf came to a shepherd of goats and took one goat from his flock. The shepherd went after it and snatched the goat back from the wolf. The narrator says: The wolf then climbed a mound, sat on its haunches with its tail between its legs, and said: "You came to a provision that Allah Almighty had granted me and snatched it away from me?" The shepherd said: "By Allah! I have never seen anything like today: a wolf talking!" The wolf said: "More astonishing than this is a man who lives among the date palms between the two lava plains, and who tells you about what has passed and about what will happen after you." That man was a Jew. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) confirmed what he said and stated: "This is one of the signs that come before the Hour. Soon it will happen that a man will go out, and he will not return until his sandals and his whip tell him what his family did after him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is in the Sahih in abridged form.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
