عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ قُتَيْلَةَ بِنْتَ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَى ابْنَتِهَا أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ - وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ طَلَّقَهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ - فَأَرْسَلَتْ بِهَدَايَا فِيهَا أَقِطٌ وَسَمْنٌ ، فَأَبَتْ أَنْ تَقْبَلَ هَدِيَّتَهَا وَتُدْخِلَهَا بَيْتَهَا ، فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ لِتَسْأَلَ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لِتُدْخِلْهَا بَيْتَهَا وَلْتَقْبَلْ هَدِيَّتَهَا " . وَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : ( لَا يَنْهَاكُمُ اللَّهُ عَنِ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ ) الْآيَةَ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ بِنَحْوِهِ وَالْبَزَّارُ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، وَفِيهِ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ وَضَعَّفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِمَا ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Qutaylah bint Abd al-Uzza sent a message to her daughter Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her); Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had divorced her in the Jahiliyyah. That woman sent some gifts that included dried curd and ghee. Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) refused to accept her gift or to let her into her house. Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) sent word to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) so that she would ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She should let her into her house and accept her gift." (The narrator said:) Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse about it: "Allah does not forbid you regarding those who have not fought you because of religion."
Ahmad recorded something similar, and al-Bazzar recorded it, and the wording is his. Its chain contains a narrator, Mus'ab bin Thabit, whom Ibn Hibban declared trustworthy while a group declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy).

وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَأَسْمَاءَ أَنَّهُمَا قَالَتَا : قَدِمَتْ عَلَيْنَا أُمُّنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَهِيَ مُشْرِكَةٌ ، فِي الْهُدْنَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ بَيْنَ قُرَيْشٍ وَبَيْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أُمَّنَا قَدِمَتْ عَلَيْنَا رَاغِبَةً ، أَفَنَصِلُهَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ فَصِلَاهَا " . قُلْتُ : حَدِيثُ أَسْمَاءَ فِي الصَّحِيحِ . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ عَنْ شَيْخِهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَبِيبٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Our mother came to us in Madinah while she was a polytheist. This was in the time after the truce that was made between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Quraysh. We said: "O Messenger of Allah! Our mother has come to us, and she is hoping (for our kindness). Should we treat her well?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! Treat her well." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) is in the Sahih.
