بَابٌ فِيمَنْ عَطَسَ فَلَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ :
عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَحَدُهُمَا أَشْرَفُ مِنَ الْآخَرِ ، فَعَطَسَ الشَّرِيفُ فَلَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ ، فَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعَطَسَ الْآخَرُ ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ، فَشَمَّتَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
قَالَ : فَقَالَ الشَّرِيفُ : عَطَسْتُ عِنْدَكَ فَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي ، وَعَطَسَ هَذَا عِنْدَكَ فَشَمَّتَّهُ ؟ قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ فَذَكَرْتُهُ ، وَأَنْتَ نَسِيتَ اللَّهَ فَنَسِيتُكَ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ مَأْمُونٌ .
عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَحَدُهُمَا أَشْرَفُ مِنَ الْآخَرِ ، فَعَطَسَ الشَّرِيفُ فَلَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ ، فَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعَطَسَ الْآخَرُ ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ، فَشَمَّتَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
قَالَ : فَقَالَ الشَّرِيفُ : عَطَسْتُ عِنْدَكَ فَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي ، وَعَطَسَ هَذَا عِنْدَكَ فَشَمَّتَّهُ ؟ قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ فَذَكَرْتُهُ ، وَأَنْتَ نَسِيتَ اللَّهَ فَنَسِيتُكَ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ مَأْمُونٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), one of whom was of higher standing than the other. The man of higher standing sneezed and did not praise Allah Almighty, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not respond to him. The other man sneezed and praised Allah Almighty, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) responded to him (i.e. made the prayer in reply). The man of higher standing said: "I sneezed in your presence and you did not respond to me, but this man sneezed in your presence and you responded to him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This man remembered Allah, so I remembered him; and you forgot (to remember) Allah Almighty, so I also forgot you (i.e. I left you to your own state)."

وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ عَامِرَ بْنَ الطُّفَيْلِ قَدِمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَرَاجَعَ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَارْتَفَعَ صَوْتُهُ ، وَثَابِتُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ قَائِمٌ بِسَيْفِهِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : يَا عَامِرُ غُضَّ مِنْ صَوْتِكَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : وَمَا أَنْتَ وَذَاكَ ؟ فَقَالَ ثَابِتٌ : أَمَا وَالَّذِي أَكْرَمَهُ ، لَوْلَا أَنْ يَكْرَهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَضَرَبْتُ بِهَذَا السَّيْفِ رَأْسَكَ . فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِعَامِرٌ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ ، وَثَابِتٌ قَائِمٌ ، فَقَالَ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ يَا ثَابِتُ لَئِنْ عَرَضْتَ نَفْسَكَ لِي لَتُوَلِّيَنَّ عَنِّي ، فَقَالَ ثَابِتٌ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ يَا عَامِرُ لَئِنْ عَرَضْتَ نَفْسَكَ لِلِسَانِي لَتَكْرَهَنَّ حَيَاتِي . فَعَطَسَ ابْنُ أَخٍ لِعَامِرِ بْنِ الطُّفَيْلِ ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ، فَشَمَّتَهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ثُمَّ عَطَسَ عَامِرُ بْنُ الطُّفَيْلِ ، فَلَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ ، فَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ عَامِرٌ : شَمَّتَّ هَذَا الصَّبِيَّ وَتَرَكْتَنِي ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - :
" إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ " .
قُلْتُ : فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ . وَهُوَ بِطُولِهِ فِي غَزْوَةِ بِئْرِ مَعُونَةَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الْمُهَيْمِنِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
" إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ " .
قُلْتُ : فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ . وَهُوَ بِطُولِهِ فِي غَزْوَةِ بِئْرِ مَعُونَةَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الْمُهَيْمِنِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that Amir bin al-Tufayl came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah. He began arguing with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and raised his voice. At that time Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Amir, lower your voice before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "What business is this of yours?" Sayyiduna Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By the One who has honored the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), were it not that this would displease the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I would have struck off your head with this sword." Amir looked at Sayyiduna Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him); Amir was seated and Sayyiduna Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing. He said: "By Allah, O Thabit, if you were to put yourself up against me, you would certainly turn back from me." Sayyiduna Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah, O Amir, if you were to put yourself up against my tongue alone, you would come to hate my life." At that moment the nephew of Amir bin al-Tufayl sneezed and praised Allah Almighty, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) responded to his sneeze. Then Amir bin al-Tufayl sneezed and did not praise Allah Almighty, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not respond to him. Amir said: "You responded to this boy and did not respond to me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He praised Allah Almighty." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: After this the narrator mentioned the whole hadith, which appears in full under the expedition of Bi'r Ma'unah.
