Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is present at a matter and dislikes it is like one who was absent from it, and whoever is absent from a matter and is pleased with it is like one who was present at it."
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains Umar bin Shabib, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared thiqah (trustworthy) in one report while the majority declared him da'if (weak). The same is the case with Yusuf bin Maymun al-Sabbagh: Ibn Hibban and others declared him thiqah, while the majority declared him da'if. Another narrator is Mansur bin Abi Muzahim, who is thiqah.

Awn bin Abdullah bin Utbah relates: I said to Umar bin Abd al-Aziz: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "Soon there will be ambiguous matters. Whoever is pleased with them while absent from them is like one who was present at them, and whoever is present at them but dislikes them is like one who was absent from them." Umar bin Abd al-Aziz liked this.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; Awn did not meet Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and al-Mas'udi became confused (ikhtalata) in his memory.
