Jubayr bin Nufayr relates: One of the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Syria (al-Sham) will soon be conquered for you. When you are given a choice of dwellings there, then hold to a city in it called Damascus, for it will be the stronghold where the Muslims gather in times of great battles, and their encampment will be in a land called al-Ghutah."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains Abu Bakr bin Abi Maryam, who is da'if (weak). (Al-Haythami says:) I say: There are hadiths on the virtue of Syria which will come at the end of the Book of Virtues (Kitab al-Manaqib).

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Once, while I was sleeping, I saw (in a dream) that the pillar of the Book was carried away from beneath my head. I thought that it was being taken away, so I followed it with my gaze, and it was taken to Syria (al-Sham). Behold! When trials occur, faith will be in Syria."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Muhammad bin Amir al-Antaki, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
