عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَتَرْكَبُنَّ سُنَنَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ مِثْلًا بِمِثْلٍ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِنَحْوِهِ ، وَزَادَ : " حَتَّى لَوْ دَخَلُوا جُحْرَ ضَبٍّ لَاتَّبَعْتُمُوهُ " . قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى ؟ قَالَ : " فَمَنْ إِلَّا الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى " ; وَفِي إِسْنَادِ أَحْمَدَ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، وَفِيهِ ضَعْفٌ ، وَفِي إِسْنَادِ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، وَلَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِمَا ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, you will surely follow those before you exactly alike."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar, adding these words: "So much so that if they entered a lizard's hole, you would follow them. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! (Are those before us) the Jews and the Christians? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who else but the Jews and the Christians?" Ahmad's chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness; al-Tabarani's chain contains Yahya bin Uthman, who narrated it from Abu Hazim, and I do not know him; the rest of the narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy).

وَعَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ عَنْ حَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَيَحْمِلَنَّ شِرَارُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ عَلَى سُنَنِ الَّذِينَ خَلَوْا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ حَذْوَ الْقُذَّةِ بِالْقُذَّةِ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ مُخْتَلَفٌ فِيهِمْ .
Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The worst people of this Ummah will surely follow the ways of those who passed before them, those earlier people being from the People of the Book, and they will follow them just as one feather of an arrow matches the other."

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَتَرْكَبُنَّ سُنَنَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ شِبْرًا بِشِبْرٍ وَذِرَاعًا بِذِرَاعٍ وَبَاعًا بِبَاعٍ ، حَتَّى لَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ دَخَلَ جُحْرَ ضَبٍّ لَدَخَلْتُمْ ، وَحَتَّى لَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ جَامَعَ أُمَّهُ لَفَعَلْتُمْ " . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will surely follow the ways of those before you, span for span, dhira' for dhira' (the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow is called a 'dhira'') and ba' for ba' (the span of both outstretched arms is called a 'ba''), so much so that if one of them entered a lizard's hole, you too would enter it, and if one of them had intercourse with his mother, you too would do so."

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنْتُمْ أَشْبَهُ الْأُمَمِ بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ، لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَرِيقَهُمْ حَذْوَ الْقُذَّةِ بِالْقُذَّةِ ، حَتَّى لَا يَكُونَ فِيهِمْ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا كَانَ فِيكُمْ مِثْلُهُ ، حَتَّى أَنَّ الْقَوْمَ لَتَمُرُّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَرْأَةُ فَيَقُومُ إِلَيْهَا بَعْضُهُمْ فَيُجَامِعُهَا ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ يَضْحَكُ إلَيهِمْ وَيَضْحَكُونَ إِلَيْهِ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are the nation that most resembles the Children of Israel, and you will follow their ways just as one feather of an arrow matches the other, so much so that whatever was among them will be among you in the same way; so much so that a woman will pass by some people, and one man among them will get up, go to that woman and have intercourse with her, then return to his companions, laughing at them while they laugh at him."

وَعَنِ الْمُسْتَوْرِدِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَا تَتْرُكُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةُ شَيْئًا مِنْ سُنَنِ الْأَوَّلِينَ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna al-Mustawrid bin Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This Ummah will act upon every single one of the ways of the earlier people."
