Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) that he wished to see him in his original form. Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: "Supplicate to your Lord." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated to his Lord, and Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) appeared before him from the direction of the east; he was moving, rising high. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he fell down; then he (Jibril) came to him.
Al-Bazzar recorded it from his teacher Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Kirmani, whom I do not know. And Idris, the daughter's son of Wahb bin Munabbih: his hadith is to be written down in topics that soften the heart (al-riqaq), as Yahya bin Ma'in said. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw his Lord. Ikrimah said: "O Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both)! Has Allah Almighty not said: 'Vision cannot perceive Him, and He perceives all vision'?" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "May you be without a mother! What is meant is that when He manifests Himself in His particular manner, no sight can withstand Him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) Al-Tirmidhi has also recorded a hadith from him, which is other than this narration.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains the narrator Ibrahim bin al-Hakam bin Aban, who is matruk (abandoned).
