Aslam Abu Imran al-Tujibi narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "On the day of Badr we formed ranks, and one of us went out ahead. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at them and said: 'Stay with me! Stay with me!'" The narrator Abdullah says: My father narrated it this way, and he used these words: "We formed ranks on the day of the Battle of Badr."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness. The correct view is that Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) did not take part in the Battle of Badr; and Allah knows best.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When we were facing the enemy with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), each one of us, when stepping forward into the row for fighting, would watch over his brother's knee more carefully than over an arrow when it is shot. He would say: "Watch your knee, for I am seeking (martyrdom) just as you are seeking it." Allah Almighty has said: "As though they were a solid structure."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Harun al-Abdi, and he is matruk (abandoned). The hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed at the end of the chapter on the virtue of jihad, concerning the virtue of a man standing in the row in the path of Allah.

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man's standing in the row (of battle) in the path of Allah is more virtuous than his worshipping for sixty years."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Imam al-Bazzar also recorded something similar, and his wording is: "The standing of one of you in the row for an hour." Its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth; Imam Ahmad and others declared him thiqah (trustworthy). The narrators of Imam al-Bazzar are thiqat (trustworthy).
