It is transmitted from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that this narration reached
him (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said): "The most excellent jihad is that of the person whose horse's legs are cut down and whose blood is shed."
Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani (in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat) recorded it.

In al-Mu'jam al-Saghir it is reported from him that Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, which Islam is most excellent?" He said: "The one from whose tongue and hand the other Muslims are safe." It was said: "Which emigration (hijrah) is most excellent?" He said: "That you abandon what your Lord dislikes." It was said: "Which jihad is most excellent?" He said: "That of the person whose horse's legs are cut down and whose blood is shed." Muslim recorded part of this narration. The narrators of Abu Ya'la and of al-Mu'jam al-Saghir are the narrators of the Sahih. Ahmad also recorded something similar.
