Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I am about to marry off my daughter, and I would like you to help me with something." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At the moment I have nothing with me. Come to me tomorrow with a flask with a wide mouth, and bring a stick from a tree." After this, the hadith is mentioned in "al-Nawadir".
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Halbas bin Ghalib, who is matruk (abandoned).

Hadith Takhrij«اخرجه ابو يعلى فى المسند (6295) ، أخرجه المعجم الأوسط للطبراني برقم: 2916»
Sayyiduna Rabi'ah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He asked me: "O Rabi'ah! Will you not marry?" I said: "No! By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I do not want to marry, because I do not have enough with which to look after a woman, and I do not like that anything should separate me from you." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from me. Then I continued to serve him for some time. Then he asked me a second time: "O Rabi'ah! Will you not marry?" I said: "I do not want to marry; I have nothing with which I could look after a woman, and I also do not like that anything should occupy me away from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from me. Then I thought to myself and said: "By Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) knows better than I do what is good for me in my world and in my Hereafter. By Allah! If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) now says to me: 'Will you not marry?', I will say: 'Yes! O Messenger of Allah, command me with whatever you wish.'" Then he asked: "O Rabi'ah! Will you not marry?" I said: "Yes! Command me with whatever you wish." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go to the family of so-and-so" (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named a tribe of the Ansar who kept somewhat distant from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) "and say to them: 'The Messenger of Allah has sent me to you, and he commands you to marry me to so-and-so.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this about a woman from their tribe. I went to them and said to them: "The Messenger of Allah has sent me to you, and he commands you to marry me to so-and-so." They said: "Welcome to the Messenger of Allah and to the one who comes from the Messenger of Allah! By Allah, the one who comes from the Messenger of Allah will not go back without his need being fulfilled." Then they married me (arranged my marriage), treated me kindly, and did not ask me for any proof. I had nothing to give as a dower. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Buraydah al-Aslami! Gather for him the weight of a date-stone in gold." They gathered for me the weight of a date-stone in gold. I took what they had gathered for me and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this to those people and say to them: 'This is her dower.'" I came to those people and said: "This is her dower." They accepted it, were pleased with it, and said: "It is plentiful and good." Then I came back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sad. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Rabi'ah! Why are you sad?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have not seen people more noble than them. They were pleased with what I gave them, they treated me well, and they said: 'It is plentiful and good.' But now I have nothing with which to hold a wedding feast (walimah)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Buraydah! Arrange a goat for him." They got me a big, fat ram. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Go to Aishah and tell her to send the grain that is in the measure." The narrator says: I came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and told her what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had commanded me. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Here is the measure; it contains seven sa' of barley. By Allah! We have no other grain besides this. Take it!" I took it, brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and told him what Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) had said. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this to those people and say to them: 'You are to prepare bread.'" I took it to those people and took the ram along too; some people of the Aslam tribe were with me. He said: "You are to prepare the food, and this ram is to be cooked." Those people said: "We will prepare the bread, but you prepare the ram in our place." So I and the people of the Aslam tribe took the ram, slaughtered it, skinned it and cooked it, and we had bread and meat ready. I held the wedding feast and also invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: After that, on one occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me some land, and he also gave Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) some land. The world came, and a dispute arose between us about a date palm. I said: "It falls within my boundary." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It falls within my boundary." Harsh words passed between me and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said a word to me which I disliked. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) felt remorse and said to me: "O Rabi'ah! Say the same kind of thing against me, so that it becomes retaliation." I said: "I will not do that." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Either you say it, or I will complain against you to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." I said: "I will not do that." So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) left that land and set off towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I set off behind him. Some people of the Aslam tribe came and said to me: "May Allah Almighty have mercy on Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)! What is he going to complain about to the Messenger of Allah, when it was he who said the improper thing to you?" I said: "Do you know who this is? This is Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), the second of the two, and the elder of the Muslims. Beware lest he turns and sees that you are helping me against him; then he will become angry and go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and because of his anger the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will also become angry, and because of the anger of both of them, Allah Almighty will also become angry, and Rabi'ah will be destroyed." That man said: "Then what do you instruct us?" Sayyiduna Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Go back." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I came behind him alone. When he went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he told him the whole matter as it had happened. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head, looked towards me and asked me: "O Rabi'ah! What is the matter between you and al-Siddiq?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Such and such happened. He said a word that I disliked, and he said to me: 'You also say the like of what I said, so that it becomes retaliation,' but I did not accept this." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well! You should not answer him back. Say: 'O Abu Bakr! May Allah Almighty forgive you.'" So I said: "O Abu Bakr! May Allah Almighty forgive you." The narrator named al-Hasan says: Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went back weeping.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Mubarak bin Fadalah, whose narration is hasan (good), and the rest of Ahmad's narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
