بَابٌ : فِيمَنْ نَذَرَ نَذْرًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، ثُمَّ أَسْلَمَ .

عَنْ كَرَدْمِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَنْ نَذْرٍ نَذَرَهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " أَلِوَثَنٍ أَوْ لِنُصُبٍ ؟ " . قَالَ : لَا ، وَلَكِنْ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى . قَالَ : " فَأَوْفِ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى مَا جَعَلْتَ لَهُ . انْحَرْ عَلَى ثَوَابِهِ وَأَوْفِ نَذْرَكَ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَا يُعْرَفُ .

Sayyiduna Kardam bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about a vow he had made in the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Was it for an idol or for a stone altar (nusub)?" He replied: "No, rather it was for Allah Almighty." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then fulfil for Allah Almighty what you dedicated to Allah Almighty; slaughter an animal seeking His reward, and fulfil your vow."

وَعَنِ ابْنَةِ كَرَدْمَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهَا أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَنْحَرَ ثَلَاثَةً مِنْ إِبِلِي ، فَقَالَ : " إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى جَمْعٍ مِنْ إِجْمَاعِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَوْ عَلَى عِيدٍ مِنْ أَعْيَادِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَوْ عَلَى وَثَنٍ فَلَا . وَإِنْ كَانَ عَلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ فَاقْضِ نَذْرَكَ " . قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَلَى أُمِّ هَذِهِ [ الْجَارِيَةِ ] مَشْيًا أَفَأَمْشِي عَنْهَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " .

The daughter of Sayyiduna Kardamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from her father that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: "I vowed that I would slaughter three camels." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If this vow was made on account of one of the gatherings of the Days of Ignorance, or one of the festivals of the Days of Ignorance, or for an idol, then it has no standing. But if it was for something other than that, then fulfil your vow." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, the mother of this girl vowed to walk (on foot); may I walk on her behalf?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes."

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ اسْتَفْتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي نَذْرٍ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ مَاتَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْضِيَهُ ، فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَقْضِيَهُ عَنْهَا .
قُلْتُ : هُوَ فِي الصَّحِيحِ خَلَا قَوْلَهُ : فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
قُلْتُ : هُوَ فِي الصَّحِيحِ خَلَا قَوْلَهُ : فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a ruling about a vow his mother had made in the Days of Ignorance, and she had died before fulfilling it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to fulfil it on her behalf. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This report is in the "Sahih", except that it does not have the words: "in the Days of Ignorance."
