Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us that (on Eid) we wear the best clothing available, apply the best perfume available, and sacrifice the best and fattest animal available; a cow will be on behalf of seven persons and a camel on behalf of ten persons; and that when we come, we come walking with tranquillity and dignity.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Salih. Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth says: he is thiqah (trustworthy) and reliable; while Ahmad and a group declared him da'if (weak).

Abu al-Ashadd al-Sulami narrates from his father that his grandfather said: I was one of seven persons present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: He ordered us, so each of us collected one dirham, and then we bought a sacrificial animal for seven dirhams. We said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have bought it at a high price." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most virtuous sacrificial animal is the one that is the most expensive and the fattest." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order: one man held one leg, one man held the other leg, one held one foreleg, one held the other foreleg, one held one horn, one held the other horn, and the seventh slaughtered it, and all of us said the takbir over that animal.
Ahmad recorded it. I did not find anyone who declared the narrator Abu al-Asad trustworthy or criticised him, and the same is the case with his father. According to one view, his grandfather is Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him). (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Hadiths on the permissibility of this will come in the chapter on the sacrifice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if Allah wills.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hisham (may Allah be pleased with him), who lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), states that his mother brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over his head and prayed for him. (The narrator states:) That Companion used to slaughter a single goat on behalf of all his household. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: This narration is mentioned in the "Sahih" and in other books, but without mention of the sacrifice.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, regarding a man who buys a sacrificial camel or animal and then sells it and buys a fatter animal than it: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) mentioned a concession for this (that is, it is permitted to do so).
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
