بَابُهَا مِنْ حَصِيرٍ ، وَالنَّاسُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ .

وَعَنْ مُعَيْقِيبٍ قَالَ : اعْتَكَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قُبَّةٍ مِنْ خُوصٍ بَابُهَا مِنْ حَصِيرٍ ، وَالنَّاسُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ النَّضْرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْبَهَرْتِيرِيُّ ; وَلَمْ أَجِدْ مَنْ تَرْجَمَهُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ النَّضْرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْبَهَرْتِيرِيُّ ; وَلَمْ أَجِدْ مَنْ تَرْجَمَهُ .
Sayyiduna Mu'ayqib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed i'tikaf in a tent made of palm leaves, whose door was covered with a reed mat, while the people were in the mosque.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Nadr bin Sa'id al-Bahartiri; I have not found anyone who has written a biography of him.

وَعَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اعْتَكَفَ أَوَّلَ سَنَةٍ الْعَشْرَ الْأُوَلَ ، ثُمَّ اعْتَكَفَ الْعَشْرَ الْوُسْطَى ، ثُمَّ اعْتَكَفَ الْعَشْرَ الْأَوَاخِرَ وَقَالَ : " إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِيهَا فَأُنْسِيتُهَا " . فَلَمْ يَزَلْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْتَكِفُ فِيهِنَّ حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: In the first year the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed i'tikaf in the first ten days, then he observed i'tikaf in the middle ten days, then he observed i'tikaf in the last ten days, and he said: "I saw Laylat al-Qadr in these (ten nights), then I was made to forget it." After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days until he passed away.

وَعَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " اعْتِكَافٌ [ عَشْرٍ ] فِي رَمَضَانَ كَحَجَّتَيْنِ وَعُمْرَتَيْنِ " .

Sayyiduna Imam Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I'tikaf for ten days in Ramadan is like performing Hajj twice and Umrah twice."

وَعَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ : قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ : قَوْمٌ عُكُوفٌ بَيْنَ دَارِكَ وَدَارِ أَبِي مُوسَى أَلَا تَنْهَاهُمْ ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : فَلَعَلَّهُمْ أَصَابُوا وَأَخْطَأْتُ ، وَحَفِظُوا وَنَسِيتُ ؟ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : ( أَمَّا أَنَا فَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ بِأَنَّهُ ) لَا اعْتِكَافَ إِلَّا فِي هَذِهِ الْمَسَاجِدِ الثَّلَاثَةِ مَسْجِدِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، وَمَسْجِدِ مَكَّةَ ، وَمَسْجِدِ إِيلِيَاءَ .

Abu Wa'il narrates: Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "Some people are observing i'tikaf (in the mosque) between your house and the house of Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him). Will you not forbid them?" Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Perhaps they are right and I am wrong; perhaps they have remembered and I have forgotten." Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "As for me, I know that i'tikaf is only valid in these three mosques: the Mosque of Madinah, the Mosque of Makkah and the Mosque of Iliya'."

وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : أَمَّا أَنَا فَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ لَا اعْتِكَافَ إِلَّا فِي مَسْجِدِ جَمَاعَةٍ .

In one narration the words are: Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "As for me, I know that i'tikaf is only valid in a mosque where the congregational prayer is held." The chain of this narration is mursal (with a missing link).
وَعَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ : جَاءَ حُذَيْفَةُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ : أَلَا أَعْجَبُ مِنْ نَاسٍ عُكُوفٍ بَيْنَ دَارِكَ وَدَارِ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ؟ ! فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : فَلَعَلَّهُمْ أَصَابُوا وَأَخْطَأْتُ ؟ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : مَا أُبَالِي أَفِيهِ أَعْتَكِفُ أَمْ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ هَذِهِ ، وَإِنَّمَا الِاعْتِكَافُ فِي هَذِهِ الْمَسَاجِدِ الثَّلَاثَةِ مَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ ، وَمَسْجِدِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، وَمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى .
وَكَانَ الَّذِينَ اعْتَكَفُوا فَعَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ حُذَيْفَةُ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْكُوفَةِ الْأَكْبَرِ .

وَكَانَ الَّذِينَ اعْتَكَفُوا فَعَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ حُذَيْفَةُ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْكُوفَةِ الْأَكْبَرِ .

Ibrahim narrates: Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Should I not be astonished at the people observing i'tikaf between your house and the house of al-Ash'ari?" Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Perhaps they are right and I am wrong." Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I do not care whether I observe i'tikaf there or in these houses of yours. I'tikaf is only valid in these three mosques: al-Masjid al-Haram, the Mosque of Madinah and al-Masjid al-Aqsa." The narrator says: The people whom Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) objected to were those who were observing i'tikaf in the great mosque of Kufah.
