بَابٌ فِيمَنْ يَسْتَرِيحُ إِذَا مَاتَ .

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ : جَاءَ بِلَالٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَاتَتْ فُلَانَةٌ وَاسْتَرَاحَتْ . فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا يَسْتَرِيحُ مَنْ غُفِرَ لَهُ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالْطَبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ وَفِيهِ كَلَامٌ .

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sayyiduna Bilal came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so woman has died and has found rest." At this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and said: "Only the one who is forgiven finds rest."
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and he has been criticised.

وَعَنْهَا : تُوُفِّيَتِ امْرَأَةٌ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَضْحَكُونَ مِنْهَا وَيُمَازِحُونَهَا فَقُلْتُ : اسْتَرَاحَتْ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّمَا يَسْتَرِيحُ مَنْ غُفِرَ لَهُ " .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

This report is transmitted from her (that is, Sayyidah Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her): A woman passed away. The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to laugh and joke with that woman. I said: "This woman has found rest." At this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Only the one who is forgiven finds rest."
