Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) once became sexually impure (junub) while he was the commander of the army. He gave up the ritual bath (ghusl) because he thought: "If I take a bath, I will die of the cold." So he led his companions in prayer in a state of sexual impurity. When they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about what he had done and informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) of his fear, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved it and remained silent.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; in its chain it is mentioned that Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman al-Ansari narrated it from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him), and I have not found anyone who mentions him; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer while in a state of sexual impurity (junub). When they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they mentioned this to him (peace and blessings be upon him) as well. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) summoned him and asked him about it, and he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I feared that the cold would kill me, and Allah Almighty has said: 'Do not kill yourselves; indeed, Allah is Merciful to you.'" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent at what he said.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Yusuf bin Khalid al-Samti, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
