عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِالنَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ لَهُ : " كَيْفَ أَصْبَحْتَ يَا حَارِثَةُ ؟ " قَالَ : أَصْبَحْتُ مُؤْمِنًا حَقًّا . قَالَ : " انْظُرْ مَا تَقُولُ ; فَإِنَّ لِكُلِّ قَوْلٍ حَقِيقَةً ، فَمَا حَقِيقَةُ إِيمَانِكَ ؟ " قَالَ : عَزَفَتْ نَفْسِي عَنِ الدُّنْيَا ، فَأَسْهَرْتُ لَيْلِي ، وَأَظْمَأْتُ نَهَارِي ، وَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ عَرْشَ رَبِّي بَارِزًا ، وَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ يَتَزَاوَرُونَ فِيهَا ، وَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَهْلِ النَّارِ يَتَضَاغَوْنَ فِيهَا . قَالَ : " يَا حَارِثَةُ ، عَرَفْتَ فَالْزَمْ " .

Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Malik al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) states that once he passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Harithah! In what state have you entered the morning (or, what is your condition)?" Sayyiduna Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "I have entered the morning in such a state (or, my condition is) that I am a true believer." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Consider what you are saying! Every statement has a reality, so what is the reality of your faith?" He replied: "I have detached myself from the world; I stay awake all night (that is, in worship) and remain thirsty by day (that is, keep voluntary fasts). It is as if I am looking at the Throne of my Lord, as if I am looking at the people of Paradise visiting one another, and as if I am looking at the people of Hell crying out in it (Hell)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have attained understanding, so hold firmly to it!"

وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَقِيَ رَجُلًا يُقَالُ لَهُ : حَارِثَةُ ، فِي بَعْضِ سِكَكِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " كَيْفَ أَصْبَحْتَ يَا حَارِثَةُ ؟ " قَالَ : أَصْبَحْتُ مُؤْمِنًا حَقًّا . قَالَ : " إِنَّ لِكُلِّ إِيمَانٍ حَقِيقَةً ، فَمَا حَقِيقَةُ إِيمَانِكَ ؟ " قَالَ : عَزَفَتْ نَفْسِي عَنِ الدُّنْيَا ، فَأَظْمَأْتُ نَهَارِي ، وَأَسْهَرْتُ لَيْلِي ، وَكَأَنِّي بِعَرْشِ رَبِّي بَارِزًا ، وَكَأَنِّي بِأَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ يَتَنَعَّمُونَ فِيهَا ، وَكَأَنِّي بِأَهْلِ النَّارِ فِي النَّارِ يُعَذَّبُونَ . فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " أَصَبْتَ فَالْزَمْ ، مُؤْمِنٌ نَوَّرَ اللَّهُ قَلْبَهُ " .

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met a man named Harithah in one of the streets of Madinah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Harithah! In what state have you entered the morning?" He submitted: "I have entered the morning as a true believer." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every faith has a reality, so what is the reality of your faith?" He submitted: "My heart has turned away from the world, so I remain thirsty by day and stay awake by night. I feel as if the Throne of my Lord is before me, and I feel as if I am seeing the people of Paradise enjoying its blessings in Paradise, and the people of Hell being punished in Hell." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are right! Hold firmly to it. (You are) a believer whose heart Allah Almighty has illuminated."
