Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 9985

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: On the day of Badr the distinctive mark of the angels was white turbans, with their ends hanging down their backs, and on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn their mark was red turbans. But the angels took part in fighting only on the occasion of the Battle of Badr; otherwise they would be present to increase the numbers, but would not take part in the fighting.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ammar bin Abi Malik al-Janbi, whom al-Azdi declared da'if (weak).
