Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Badr I found Abu Jahl lying (wounded). I said: "O enemy of Allah, Allah has disgraced you!" He said: "In what way has Allah Almighty disgraced me? I am a man whom you have killed." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I had my sword with me, and I began striking him with it, but it had no effect on him. He had a fine sword with him. I struck his hand and the sword fell from his hand, and I took it. Then I removed the helmet from his head and struck off his neck. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "By Allah, besides whom there is no god? (Is this news correct?)" I said: "By Allah, besides whom there is no god (this news is correct)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and make certain." I went, running like a bird, then I came back like a bird, laughing, and told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and show me too." I set off with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and showed him Abu Jahl. When he stood over him, he said: "This is the Pharaoh of this Ummah."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Muhammad bin Wahb bin Abi Karimah, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
