Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Badr I came to Abu Jahl while he was lying down. I took his sword and struck his head with it (that is, I jabbed it), and he said: "Our little shepherd from Makkah?" Then I struck him with his own sword until he grew cold. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have killed Abu Jahl." Aqil, who was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a captive, said: "You have lied; you did not kill him." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: "O enemy of Allah, rather you are the sinful liar! By Allah, I have killed him." He asked: "What is his mark?" Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "On his thigh there was a ring, like a ringed button." He said: "You have spoken the truth."
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains Abu Bakr al-Hudhali, who is da'if (weak).
