Urwah narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ayyash bin Abi Rabi'ah set out with their companions, and these people took up residence in the area of Banu Amr bin Awf. Abu Jahl bin Hisham and al-Harith bin Hisham set out in search of Ayyash bin Abi Rabi'ah; Ayyash was their half-brother through their mother. The two of them came to Madinah and mentioned to Ayyash his mother's distress. They told him that this woman had sworn that she would neither come into the shade of a house nor put oil on her head until she saw you. They said: "Had it not been for this, we would not have come looking for you; so we remind you of Allah concerning your mother." That man loved his mother dearly, and he also knew that his mother loved him, so he had no difficulty believing what they said. His heart softened because of the situation they described to him, but he refused to go with the two of them unless al-Harith bin Hisham made a pact with him. When he set out with the two of them, they tied him up, and he remained continuously in bonds until he left from there (along with his other companions) some time before the conquest of Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had supplicated for him to be delivered and kept safe.
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a "mursal" narration; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness. The narrator has also recorded it from Ibn Shihab as a "mursal" narration, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
