Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 987

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The likeness of the scholars is that of the stars in the sky, by which guidance is found in the darkness of land and sea. When the stars are extinguished, even those who are on the right path are in danger of going astray."
Ahmad recorded it; discussion of this narration has already passed in the chapter on the virtue of the scholar and the student.
