وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِالْخَنْدَقِ فَأَخَذَ الْكَرْزِينَ فَحَفَرَ بِهِ فَصَادَفَ حَجَرًا فَضَحِكَ قِيلَ : مَا يُضْحِكُكَ ؟ قَالَ : " ضَحِكْتُ مِنْ نَاسٍ يُؤْتَى بِهِمْ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ فِي النُّكُولِ يُسَاقُونَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " يُؤْتَى بِهِمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ فِي كُبُولِ الْحَدِيدِ " .

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Trench. He took a pickaxe and began digging with it. His blow struck a stone and he smiled. It was said: "What are you smiling at?" He said: "I smiled at people who will be brought from the direction of the east in fetters and led to Paradise."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, though al-Tabarani's wording is: "They will be brought to Paradise in iron fetters (or chains)."
