Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 9703

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever pays the ransom of a captive held by the enemy, I am that captive."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ayyub bin Abi Hajar; Abu Hatim says: His hadiths are "sahih" (authentic), while al-Azdi declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
