وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : كَتَبَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ : " أَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا " . فَمَا وَجَدُوا مَنْ يَقْرَؤُهُ لَهُمْ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي ضُبَيْعَةَ فَهُمْ يُسَمَّوْنَ بَنِي الْكَاتِبِ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَأَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الصَّغِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُ الْأَوَّلِينَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote to Bakr bin Wa'il: "Accept Islam and you will be safe." They found no one who could read it out to them; they found a man from Banu Dubay'ah (who read the letter out to them), and those people came to be called Banu al-Katib (the clan of the scribe).
Al-Bazzar and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir. The narrators of the first ones are the narrators of the Sahih.
